MANILA — Mariing itinanggi ni Vice President Sara Duterte ang mga kasong plunder, graft, bribery, at malversation na isinampa laban sa kanya at 15 iba pang opisyal ng Office of the Vice President (OVP) at Department of Education (DepEd) kaugnay ng umano’y maling paggamit ng ₱612.5 milyon confidential funds mula 2022 hanggang 2023.

Sa kanyang pahayag, sinabi ni Duterte na ang mga reklamo ay walang ibang layunin kundi ang sirain ang kanyang reputasyon. “These charges are baseless and politically motivated. I have always served with integrity and transparency,” aniya.

Ang reklamo ay inihain sa Office of the Ombudsman ng mga kilalang personalidad kabilang sina dating Finance Undersecretary Cielo Magno, Ramon Magsaysay awardee Fr. Flavie Villanueva, at “running priest” Fr. Robert Reyes. 

Kasama rin sa complainants sina dating Presidential Adviser Teresita Deles, UP Professor Sylvia Claudio, writer Christopher Cabahug, at youth leaders na sina Matthew Silverio at John Lloyd Crisostomo.

Ayon sa mga nagsampa ng kaso, tumanggi si Duterte na ipaliwanag kung paano ginastos ang confidential funds sa kabila ng paulit-ulit na imbestigasyon ng Kongreso. “Despite lengthy and repeated congressional inquiries, the Vice President has refused to explain where her office spent such amounts of public funds,” nakasaad sa reklamo.

Samantala, iginiit ni Duterte na ang lahat ng pondo ay ginamit nang naaayon sa batas at sa interes ng publiko. “I will face these accusations head-on, but I will not allow political harassment to distract me from serving the Filipino people,” dagdag niya.

Patuloy na nakabinbin ang imbestigasyon ng Ombudsman. Kung mapatunayang may basehan, maaaring humarap si Duterte sa kasong plunder, na may parusang reclusion perpetua at perpetual disqualification from public office.
